The University of Madras was established in 1857 and is termed to be the mother university of all the oldest universities in the southern region of India, and for offering undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate, and diploma courses through ODL mode it initiated an entirely separate unit – Institute of Distance Education in 1981. The Institute of Distance Education is an IGC-DEB-approved distance education university and holds an experience of 25+ years in the correspondence education sector.

Firstly students have to register themselves on the official website of Madras University’s Institute of Distance Education.
There are individual prospects and application forms for online admission on the website, from which students have to choose their desired course (UG, PG, Diploma, or Certificate) from the drop-down menu.
After selecting their desired course and downloading the application form, students have to fill out the form with the correct and required information
While filling out the form, students must attach the required documents along with the form. fter filling out the form with the required information and documents, students can submit the application form.
When the application form is submitted, students are requested to send their original certificates along with the photocopies to The Director, Institute of Distance Education, Chepauk, Chennai-600005 within 15 days from the date of online Registration for verification purposes (compulsory).
