About
Alagappa University has emerged from the galaxy of institutions initially founded by the great philanthropist and educationist Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar during the 1950s.
Alagappa University, Karaikudi (Tamil Nadu) has a 440 acre green and lush campus houses all the academic activities.
Alagappa University was brought into existence by a Special Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in May 1985 with the objective of fostering research, development and dissemination of knowledge in various branches of learning.

- It is the only State University in Tamil Nadu obtained the Category-I Status. Obtained Autonomy status (one among 60 Institutions in the country announced by MHRD).

Admission Process
The University academic system consists of 4 Faculties, 11 Schools, 44 Departments, 2 Constituent Colleges and offers various academic programmes at UG, PG, PG Diploma, Diploma, Certificate levels. Academic session starts on July and ends on April every year.
Admission notification to academic programmes is normally notified in the month of March/April every year in the University website, Department Notice Boards as well as through Newspapers.
Organisation where alumni currently working
Alagappa University has a registered alumni association named ‘Alagu Alumni Association’ for building a strong bond between alumni and present students. The alumni give support to the University through academic interaction, financial funding, guidance and placement. The mission of the Alumni Association is to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between the University and its alumni.
The Alumni Association has contributed significantly to the development of the University through financial and other support services during the last five years. The Alumni Garden established by the Alumni Association has generated a substantial revenue of about Rs.One crore through the entrance fee and canteen collections which is utilised for various developmental purposes. Besides the above, the direct contribution of Rs. 8 lakhs of the departmental level alumni has rendered an unparalleled support for the growth of the University.
